Failure has its rewards
A few days ago Ocean Activist reported that a £270,000 bonus had been awarded to former South West Water boss Susan Davy.
Well, after some bedtime reading and delving deeper into Pennon Group Plc’s annual report, our gobs have been further smacked.
On page 148, I discovered there was rather more to her departure package than first met the eye.
According to Pennon's own remuneration report, Susan Davy also received:
💧 £735,000 in lieu of notice.
💧 A £50,000 security-related allowance.
💧 A contribution towards legal costs (the amount isn't disclosed).
💧 Up to £60,000 for outplacement support following her departure.
Add that to the previously reported £270,000 bonus and the disclosed package amounts to up to £1.115 million, plus an undisclosed contribution towards legal costs.
This isn't about begrudging anyone their contractual entitlements.
It's about asking whether this is what accountability looks like after years of sewage pollution, rising bills, the Brixham cryptosporidium outbreak and a collapse in public trust.
The deeper you dig into the annual report, the murkier the picture becomes.
