Credit where it’s due.
Honiton and Sidmouth MP Richard Foord has once again been prepared to put his head above the parapet and challenge the way South West Water is owned and run.
Speaking in Parliament, he said many people in his constituency want South West Water to become a company run for the public benefit and mutualised.
He has described its customers as effectively “captive” – unable to take their business elsewhere when the service fails them – and argued that South West Water should answer to the people who pay its bills.
For Ocean Activist, that willingness to challenge the status quo deserves recognition.
We need politicians prepared to ask difficult questions about an industry providing an essential service while its customers have no choice of supplier.
Whatever the eventual solution, it is important that those questions continue to be asked – and that the voices of Devon’s communities and those fighting to protect our rivers and seas are heard.
